Understanding Hidden Threats: Corrupted Software Files

What types of files can be damaged striker?
An attacker can insert malicious code into each file, including common file types that you would normally consider to be safe. These files can be created with documents word processing files, spreadsheets or image. After damaging the file, an attacker may be distributed or published on a website by email. Depending on the type of malicious code, you can use your computer by infecting simply open the file.
If corrupt files that attackers often exploit vulnerabilities they find the file in the software used to create or open. These vulnerabilities can be used forward and execute scripts or malicious code, and they are not always recognized. Sometimes weakness consists of a combination of certain files (e.g., software running on a particular operating system) or only in certain versions of a software program.

What problems can cause harmful files?
There are different types of malware, including viruses, worms and Trojan horses The range of consequences, however, varies within these categories. Malicious code can be designed to perform one or more functions, including

How can you protect yourself?

Operate and maintain anti-virus software
anti-virus software can often detect and protect your computer against most known viruses, so you might be able to detect and remove the virus before it cause damage (see anti virus software for more information). Since the attacker constantly writing new viruses, it is important to keep the definitions up to date.

Be careful with attachments of email
Do not open attachments you were not expecting, especially if they are people you do not know. If you decide to open an attachment email, first virus scanner (see Using Caution attachments for more information). Not only is it sending an infected file without knowing the attackers "parody" of the original e-mail, but your legitimate contacts. If your email program automatically downloads and opens attachments, check the settings to see if you can disable this feature.

Be careful when downloading, visit web pages
Avoid downloading files from sites you do not trust. If you found the files in a safe place for the so-called site certificate (see Web Site Certificates for more information). If you make a file from a website, you must save it to your computer and manually scan for viruses before opening it.
Put your software up to date - Install software patches so that attackers do not use problems or vulnerabilities (Understanding Patches for more information) known. Many operating systems offer automatic updates. If this option is available, you must activate it.

Use security settings

Good Security Habits

How can you minimize the access other people have your information?
You might be able to easily identify people who might legitimately or may not have physical access to your computer-family members, roommates, colleagues, members of a cleaning crew, and perhaps others. Identify people who may have remote access to your computer becomes much more difficult. As long as you have a computer and connect to a network, you are vulnerable to someone or something else access or corrupt your data; However, you can develop habits that make it harder.

Lock your computer when you are away from it. Even if you are away from your computer for a few minutes is enough time for someone else to destroy or corrupt your data. Locking your computer prevents another person from being able to just sit at your computer and access all of your information.
Unplug your computer from the Internet when not in use. The development of technologies such as DSL and cable modems have enabled users to be online all the time, but this convenience comes with risks. The likelihood that attackers or virus scan the network for available computers will target your computer becomes much higher if your computer is still connected. Depending on the method you use to connect to the Internet, disconnecting may mean disabling a wireless connection, turn off your computer or modem, or disconnecting cables. When you are online, make sure you have a firewall enabled (see Understanding Firewalls for more information).
Evaluate your security settings. Most software, including browsers and email programs, offers a variety of features that you can adapt to your needs and requirements. Enabling certain features to increase convenience or functionality may leave you more susceptible to attack. It is important to consider the parameters, especially the security settings and select the options that meet your needs without putting you at increased risk. If you install a patch or a new version of the software, or if you hear something that might affect your settings, reevaluate your settings to make sure they are still appropriate (see Understanding Patches, backing up your data and evaluation of the security of your Web browser settings for more information).
What other steps can you take?
Sometimes the threats to your information is not other people, but to natural or technological causes. Although there is no way to control or prevent these problems, you can prepare for them and try to minimize the damage.
Protect your computer against power surges and short interruptions. In addition to providing outlets for your computer and all peripheral devices, power strips protect your computer against surges. Many power strips now advertise compensation if they do not effectively protect your computer. Energy bands are not enough to protect against power outages, but there are products that offer backup power in case of power increase or outages. During a storm or construction which increases the chances of surges, consider turning off your computer down and disconnect it from any power source.
Back up all your data. If you take steps to protect yourself, there will always be a chance that something will happen to destroy your data. You've probably experienced this at least once through losing one or more files due to an accident, a virus or worm, a natural event, or a problem with your equipment. Regularly backing up your data on a CD or reduces stress and other negative consequences that result from losing important information network (see Warnings real world keep you safe online for more information). Determining how often to back up your data is a personal decision. If you are constantly adding or changing data, you may find weekly backups to be the best alternative; if your content rarely changes, you may decide that your backups do not need to be as frequent. You do not need to back up software that you own on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, you can reinstall the software from the original media if necessary.

Web Security Threats To Look Out For

Is your network is properly protected against web threats? Do you weigh in a false sense of security?

The pirates are changing their habits and use of new methods, web, dynamic in nature and usually hidden in legitimate sites. The end user remains the weakest link in the Web security as malware writers exploit this weakness to launch their attacks, hunting human interest, and curiosity behavior. Social networks are "trusted" and users rely on their IT administrators to protect and lulls all into a false sense of security.

Exploiting news events - Hackers use stories as to trick users
Barely 24 hours after the announcement was the death of Qaddafi, we released that targeted malware that exploit the curiosity to see the history of big news began to be transmitted. Cybercriminals use human interest - and big news stories of the world as they generate a huge amount of hedging activities and the Internet. The same thing happened when bin Laden is dead, and when the royal wedding took place - and the trend will continue. The same trick is Halloween and other seasonal stories used, we saw many of these occur on social networking sites and others. Social engineering attacks to convince users to download content to the alleged event that is infected with new strains of malware related. Any event that is of interest and the interest generated is used to spread malware scams, fraud and other.

Insecurity browsers and plug-ins - only with Windows Update is not enough
Although your favorite web browser and operating system can be saved and corrected, the reality is that most people do not update plug-ins. Java, Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader plug-ins are often outdated and there are Web exploits that use this weakness to infect networks. Web exploits that specifically target this vulnerability (such as the Black Hole exploit kit) are increasingly popular in the cyber-criminals.

Compromised high profile Webs and "drive-by downloads"
So how to distribute these vulnerabilities? The first method is "fast flux" sites, sites that are created solely for the purpose of distributing malware for a short time. The second way is to compromise a site level and the injection of a "drive-by download" - a piece of code that infects a user when they have a website (there is no need of anything, click here - just visit the site of infection is the user's computer - so that drive-by). Usps.gov the site and the site were exposed to mysql.org these two types of attacks.

There is a third method of spreading these infections. Instead of using a website, send a malware authors content on Web advertising companies infected. This content is then passed on thousands of websites with these promotional affiliates, and each site hosting the ads is to spread malware, and this code is detected. The London Stock Exchange was a website that exposed to these types of attacks this year, even though it was by far not the only way.

Search Engine Poisoning
End users have become accustomed to rely on search engines. They (wrongly) believe that the well-known search engine like Google or Bing would never directly on a website that is infected with malicious software. But search engines do not really make a difference between sites, the search results according to their ranking algorithms. As a result of malware authors are flooding search results with links to the pages of bait to take the user to download malicious websites, malicious software on their computers. As users became more suspicious you are certain types of links, this type of search image search now, the most difficult to avoid are moved.

Evolve as Internet threats, it is more difficult to ignore exposed to the threat posed by the user browsing the Internet, and further develop as an attack, you must ensure that your Web browsing activity n ' is not so expect more than you.

Avoid opening email attachments you from an unknown address. If you are not sure you save the attachment to a hard disk and scan it with your anti-virus software. Open it only if you are sure it is clean. Try your e-mail in text format to read instead of HTML.
7. Turn off the preview function in e-mail browser
In most email systems, you have the option to "preview" email attachments. For example, you can preview an image without opening double. There can be some computer-virus programs to go ahead and run the program.
To prevent this, go to the settings or options or settings and switch it off.

USB Disk Security 5.3.0.25

USB Disk Security provides 100 protection against any threats via USB drive, however, the majority of other products are unable even to guarantee 90 protection. USB Disk Security is the best antivirus software to permanently protect offline computer without the need for signature updates, but other antivirus software should update signature database regularly, and they cannot effectively protect offline computer. This light and easy to use solution is 10 compatible with all software and doesn't slow down your computer at all. You pay USB Disk Security once and get it all, however, other antivirus products should be paid for updates every year.

Product Highlights:

* 100 protection against any malicious programs via USB storage
USB Disk Security uses innovative proactive technology to block any threats via USB drive. There are relatively few products available in shops or on the Internet which offer even close to 100 protection against any malicious programs via USB drive. The majority of products are unable even to guarantee 90 protection. USB Disk Security is the world's best software to block threats via USB drive.

* The best solution to protect offline computer
Other antivirus software should update signature database regularly, and they cannot effectively protect offline computer that is not connected to the Internet. When new viruses, worms and other malicious attacks strike, traditional signatures are insufficient. Every minute one waits for a virus signature update creates a window of vulnerability that could have devastating consequences. USB Disk Security uses advanced proactive detection techniques, requires no signature updates, and closes the window of vulnerability left open by other reactive, signature-based responses.

* The world's fastest and smallest antivirus software
With USB Disk Security, its not necessary to sacrifice speed for detection and scanning. Compare antivirus software and you'll discover that USB Disk Security is by far one of the smallest applications in the industry. For example, the v5.0 of USB Disk Security installer is just 1 MB. The program utilizes approximately 1 to 7 MB of RAM.

* 100 compatible with all software
Incompatibility between antivirus programs is an issue. In the vast majority of cases, installing two antivirus programs from different vendors on one machine (for increased protection) is technically impossible, as the two programs will disrupt each other's functioning. However, USB Disk Security is 100 compatible with all software, including Windows Vista.

* Simple to use
USB Disk Security has been specifically designed to perform effectively regardless of the users level of computer expertise. Just install and forget it.
